Zoe Bator- US passes fresh sanctions on North Korea

US passes fresh sanctions on North Korea

Summary: The United Nations Security Council adapted a new resolution to create new sanctions on North Korea to cap North Korea's oil imports, ban textile exports, end additional overseas laborer contracts, suppress smuggling efforts, stop joint ventures with other nations and sanction designated North Korean government entities, according to a US official familiar with negotiations. However, these restrictions may show to be ineffective... last year, North Korea was the most sanctioned country in the world, but still managed to boost their economy by 4% from the previous year. The US is trying to stop North Korean efforts, but with the sanctions North Korean officials are just getting heated. "The forthcoming measures to be taken by the DPRK will cause the US the greatest pain and suffering it had ever gone through in its entire history." So since then, the sanctions have been softened.

Analysis: The United Nations Security Councils's efforts were not the best choice of action. These actions just inflamed North Korea to the point of saying the U.S. will pay a "due price." If the sanctions would have gone through as intended I can't even imagine the outcome, so it sucks that it took China and Russia telling our government to "dial it down" (sanctions) for a moderate decision to be made. This article is consistently updated to inform the public of the government's decisions.

  1. While this may have enraged North Korea, they must be dealt with. North Korea is acting very rashly and is not considering the implications of their actions. The United States' nuclear arsenal is the most powerful in the world. If North Korea was to attack one of our allies, or us directly, they would be essentially blown off the map.

  2. With how bad things are between the U.S and North Korea right now, it doesn't surprise me that this just added fuel to the fire. There's lots of tension, so any little thing could tick either side off
