Summary: Alabama senate candidate, Roy Moore, repeatedly appeared on a radio show with a pastor known for slandering the lgbt community. Kevin Swanson, the radio show's host and a Colorado-based pastor has been known to publicly condemned the gay community on multiple occasions. Not long ago, this past February as it happens, the pastor has been noted stating that "the biblical punishment for homosexuality is death". Most recently the pastor commented on Hurricane Harvey tying the incident to Houston's gay-friendly mayor. He seems to believe that the hurricane was a show of God's will and his fury towards the lgbt community.  Upon being asked his personal stand point on the issue, Ray Moore had little to say- his only response to the  interviewer's question, "You don't have any opinion about what the punishment should be?", being a curt "No."

Analysis: Personally I have very little tolerance for intolerance, far less than that of Ray Moore.  Failing to address the blatant bigotism and ignorance like the kind displayed by Pastor Swanson is nearly as bad as being the one to exhibit it. It is the straight, white men of our country, the lgbt community needs most right now to help to open and educate the minds of people like Kevin Swanson. It's a sad truth that even in today's society the voice better heard than all others continues to be the one of men like Roy Moore. Even sadder still, is the fact that those are the voices that speak out the least.  I can only hope that the protests of the oppressed and their supporters will eventually drown out the voices of their oppressors. Only time will tell, but if history is to repeat itself as it often does it is likely that our community's strides towards equality will continue to stretch farther and stronger than in years past.

  1. It's saddening to see how many of the public voices are those that belittle people just for being themselves. I most definitely do NOT think that Harvey, a horrible event, was "caused by the LGBTQ+ community." I personally find that closed-minded and ignorant.

  2. Honestly, the nerve of this man baffles me. I cannot even fathom words. What amount of pure stupidity and ignorance compels you to even think something like this? What fresh hell is this?

  3. Because of the fairly LGBTQ+ friendly environment of our school and city, people tend to forget how big of a problem ignorance and homophobia are in America and around the world. It's people like this pastor that remind them, and will hopefully get true allies to not be afraid to speak out on things like this and help to educate ignorant people.
