Six-month-old 'ripped' from parents' arms in Harvey flooding
On August 27th, 2017 firefighters in Walker County Texas heard yelling coming from two individuals nearby. Reporters stated that the two adults had been parents up in a tree: calling for help to save their child. The parents later reported that they had been forced to flee their pickup in the rushing waters. Jimmy Williams, a member of the local fire department, reported that "The current was so fast, it ripped the baby out of their arms." Due to the grueling circumstances in the area, it took rescuers three hours to get to the couple. By then it was too late: the baby was presumed dead, read the report.
Prior to reading this article I was aware of the dire conditions in Houston, created by Hurricane Harvey. However, I did not truly understand the aftermath the storm had created. The author wrote this article in hopes of informing people who do not really understand the disastrous effects Houston is dealing with. By making the readers aware of Houston's conditions, the author hopes that people will understand the severity of the situation: and will in response try and do something to help.
Its a sad thing to be unprepared for an event like Harvey but to also lose your child in the mist is what makes this event tragic, along with them many people have also lost loved ones.
ReplyDeleteIt really sucks that people have to go through these type of situations. I can only imagine what that couple felt like...
