Claudia Anthony "Biplane Crash in Atlanta"

Saturday afternoon, the pilot of a biplane died in a crash during an air show at the metropolitan Atlanta airport. The pilot was Greg Connell, who lives in South Carolina and began his flight training in 1989. The biplane, along with another aircraft, were performing during the Good Neighbor Day Open House Airshow at DeKalb Peachtree Airport. The crash occurred while the biplane was ascending a loop, and ended up coming straight down to the ground. Fire trucks responded quickly at the scene, and no spectators were injured. This crash was the first in the three decades of the annual show.

It's awful that this accident occurred, especially in front of such a large crowd. I guess that risk is ever-present in the field of aviation. This is related to Charles Lindbergh, who made the first solo nonstop transatlantic flight.

  1. This is so unfortunate especially because the flight was for show and entertainment. I think they should review training and procedures for future show pilots.
