Current Event- Ellen Whitehead

Hurricane Irma is the worst hurricane ever recorded on the Atlantic. This category 5 hurricane has made its way through some Caribbean Islands and is currently hitting Florida and making its way through south east United States. This hurricane has already destroyed islands such as Saint Martin/Sint Maarten, Anguilla and Gustavia. The hurricane hit the worst in Saint Martin/Sint Maarten. This little island is particularly special to me because it has held my vacation home for the past six years. Seeing this island that has held great memories and laughs between my family and me is devastating. I can't even imagine how the people living on the island and surrounding islands are reacting. It is heart breaking seeing your home broken. This hurricane in significant in history because the recovery of these islands is going to take a long time. It takes so much time to ship resources down there that it will be a long time and maybe never, till these islands are back to "normal." Even though the part of the hurricane hitting the US is not as extreme, the damages to come will still be devastating.

  1. Olivia Wall- I agree, this is a very sad incident and should not be taken lightly. All the islands being destroyed just shows how much of an impact it is not only having on the United States, but other areas as well.

  2. I agree, This is a devastating hurricane and a very heavy subject. It's definitely hard to leave and not know what's happening to your own home, with all of it's memories and valuables. I'm so sorry you had to experience the weight of this hurricane with your vacation home.

  3. It's extremely upsetting to hear that another Hurricane has taken over; Hurricane Harvey occurred literally right before Hurricane Irma and the people in Houston are still suffering from the losses. I can't imagine how the people in Florida would be feeling because of this new disaster that has taken place in their home town.
